Irmagene Allen
Irmagene Carter Allen was born on October 12, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri to Roy and Maudell Carter. She passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the age of 73. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her family.
Irma attended and graduated from Summer High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She later met and married Oscar Allen. She accompanied her husband to Fort Campbell, Kentucky until his division was sent to Germany. Irma later joined her husband in Augsburg, Germany, where she learned to speak the language. While in Germany her first child was born, a son. After her husbands tour of duty, the family returned to St. Louis. In 1960 while still in St. Louis, her second child was born, a daughter. Her husband re-entered the service and she joined him at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
In 1969, she began working for the Fort Bragg School System. She started out as a cook, working her way up to cafeteria manager. She was first a cafeteria manager at Pope Elementary School and later at Devers Elementary. Irma worked 32 years with the Fort Bragg School System. Out of 32 years, she worked 30 years without taking a single sick day.
At the age of 64 Irma retired from the Fort Bragg School System. She kept active by going to exercise classes and walking.
Irma leaves behind: a loving husband of 54 years, Oscar Allen; two children, Ronald and Yvette; three adopted grandsons, Jordan, Jayden and Joshua Young; four sisters-in-law, Earline, Mary, Constance (Allen) and Lee Ann Miller; three brothers-in-law, Roy, Joe (Allen) and Charles Miller; many beloved nieces, nephews, several cousins and many close personal friends.
